I don't really know much about Transformers - watched one movie or two, and some episodes I vaguely remember seeing as a kid. But I saw this edit on YouTube of this movie and I felt inclined to watch it (and no I don't know about Spiderman either, I just thought the thumbnail was cool and just clicked).
I really had fun watching it - it was like a reboot movie so it was easy for anyone with no knowledge like me to pick it up. (Although there are probably continuity differences compared to other series but I digress...).
The colours were cool, the background and style was gorgeous, and the animation was smooth. Fight scenes were incredible, and oof did I have a good time.
Watching D-16 slowly slip to the dark side was even more interesting, especially since I could pay attention to the signs better. The humour was a bit dry, but it wasn't shoved into my face or overexaggerated (plus some of it was my taste) so that part was decent too.
Overall, it was a fun movie to watch and get into. It was definitely cool seeing someone do a reboot so newcomers can come into the franchise - although it se4ems they're cancelled now... so that's great....
Edit: I feel like, day by day, I'm becoming more and more obsessed with this movie. It really hurts knowing the chances of a sequel are extremely low right now.
I've watched a couple anaylsis videos and its becoming more and more clear how much effort and details were put into this film. Like D-16s eyes slowly turning from yellow to orange to red as he gets consumed by his rage and become Megatron. And the little cracks in their relationship you can see becoming bigger and bigger overtime, gosh some moments are so tense.
And it was actually refreshing to see a naive Optimus Prime (ig right now, as Orion Pax). Normally I dislike the reckless hero, (and honestly, I would hate Orion as a friend lol, always dragging others into his plans, I personally could never), but ig it helps knowing that he means well, and ultimately matures into the cool Optimus Prime everyone else knows.
For the ending
I like how when Orion was stopping D-16 from killing Sentinel, he said: do not start a new era with an execution. I highly dislike the "don't kill, because we're better than them" attitude, especially if you just showed them killing their underlings. But overhere, its much clear and nuanced in the fact: he's not against killing Sentinel, he just doesn't think not right now, in this manner. I wish when I was younger, the lines in other movies were more explanatory like this, because I would get confused/frustrated by the wishy-washy merciful attitude.
And Bumblebee, ah, I mean, Badassatron *cough cough*, my beloved. He's so cute, such a huge chatterbox - it actually makes me sad knowing he gets his voicebox ruined/ripped-out (idk the details).
Everything felt smooth, and it was fun to enjoy since it didn't feel like some agenda was being pushed in my face. I was just here for a good story, and I enjoyed myself.
