Discussion The longest novel...

So i was reading some Coiling Dragon and i was suddenly questioning my reason for reading this absurdly long novel that was completed a while ago. I dont have an answer so i thought i would ask you. Post the novel you are currently reading that thas the most chapters of all the fictions you are reading and your reason for reading such an absurdly long series.

Like so

Reason: I dont you. You tell me.

Chapter count: Fuck me its like 23 books worth. You do the math

 

I am reading a lot of novels ...really long novels...including Coiling dragon

Reason: I was pulled by an invisible force into this chaotic world of fantasy/adventure/etc.. and I was unable to deflect it with my zero cultivation... XD

 

.....because you started reading it and you like it, so thats why you keep reading it??? I Shall seal the heavens is the longest novel atm that i'm keeping up with and i read it because i like it.

 

well guin saga is even more of a beast. but you'll have issues reading it in english.

 

just did some rough math. Im estimating Coiling Dragon at something like 1000+ chapters.

 

I read way too many different things... My reading list has too many books in it lol...

I read and completed both Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformation.

I liked it at the start. But along the way, through ups and downs of the story, the main reason I have is "I've read this much, I might as well finish it".

 

What a question, you read it becouse you like it, right? There is nothing more nothing less to it. Why would you force yourself otherwise? If you get tired of it midway then you're just gonna drop it, no big deal.

 

ISSTH. 992 chapters translated so far.
It has ~1500 chapters in total

 

Finished coiling as well as stellar transformations why? Because I love reading and they drew me in haha currently as stated I shall seal the heavens only cause it isn't done being translated or I'd of finished it I prefer long novels so I can read for a day or 2 at once but I'm all ready caught up and waiting for each chapter lol

 

Well, Tempered Immortal chapters is consist of 4200+

 

I wouldn't call it 23 books worth considering that it is short chapters, unless you are comparing it to light novel volumes rather than full novels.

 

All the chapters are at least 2000 words long and in each book there are about 40-50 chapters roughly. Now you tell me is that short!

Longest series I've ever read:

Dune (by Frank Herbert & son & Anderson) - about 30 books.
Star Trek - over 50 books
Star Wars - over 70 books

 

I read 16 of the Young Ancients books by P.S. Power. Debatable whether or not it was worth it.
Malazan Book of the Fallen at 10 books.
Dresden Files at 14 books.
MGA's at over 1000 chapters right now.

I plan on reading the Stormlight Archives at an estimated 10 books ~1000 pages each. That'll be probably the best moment of my life.

 

Well I'm used to much longer chapters in western published novels, a chapter of a book in the Malazan Book of The Fallen series for example can be up around 12000-15000 words.
Not saying CD isn't long in total due to amount of chapters, just that the chapters themselves are short.

I guess it's either SAO or SAW... Forgot which one is bigger...

As for why? Because they're good of course, I like reading good things!

 

Malazan took me waaaaay longer to finish than CD. I think I finished CD in a long weekend. Malazan took like 2 weeks or so.
