after reading some novels about survival idol group, there's one thing that puzzled me: why do male author like to make MC go solo after MC won the championship on a survival idol show? although I don't mind about all-rounder solo MC, but why did they use the survival show trope? it's not like there's no other survival show in the entertainment circle like The Voice or Rising Star. If they want to use the survival idol show like produce101 please don't let the MC get a championship yet refuse to debut as a group!! I'm so mad. It's stated on the contract (before they join the show) that no.1 to 9 can debut together, yet no.1 chooses to debut as solo and let no. 2 to 10 debut as a group. Do they not know how contract works? I know that survival idol show trope was a hit in danmei circle first then it went to Qid*an, although there is some idol novel with good friendships and lots of nice side characters over there, as time went on the amount of all-rounder idol MC is a bit overwhelming... they can sing, dance, compose, write lyric, mixing, playing flute/guzheng/erhu, do sword dance/wushu/martial arts, can act, write tv drama script, etc. Sometimes I can see the shadow of Full-time Artist's MC on them. Well... at least he has 3 vests.
Yes, I noticed this in CN novels, that's why 'Debut or Die' is such a breath of fresh air for me, that even though the MC is quite outstanding his group members have their own charm as well. I think MC's in CN novels are just expected to be this perfect wish fulfillment character. Like I don't think I've ever encountered a CN MC that is not super good looking/smart/talented. It reminds me of that one novel that I forgot the title that is about voice acting. The male MC is so good at voice acting female characters that he got the best female voice actress award. I guess for the author it's justified because their MC's are so special.
I've seen a lot like that in Chinese novels where mc not only has a goddess's face but is also an all-rounder and always won first place without too much effort. Not fond of that kind of story that has too much plot armor which made me feel so unreal and unbelievable (well, it really is, and plus too many brainless rivals). I guess this is the reason why I drop some novels with this kind of story. I prefer to read something like Skip beat, we could see how she work so hard to develop her acting skills and slowly climb to the top.
Because most idol groups formed in survival shows in china gets disbanded after few years and then members pursue solo career just using survival shows as a stepping stone.
the show itself is supposed to be a stepping stone for trainees, but I didn't talk about this. I just want to complain about people who got the debut quota but discard it without even trying to form a group. It's ok to go solo after the idol group contract ended because almost everyone did that
I am sort of reminded of the incident where Lelush didn’t want to stay on produce camp cuz he really didn’t want to be an idol, but fans kept voting for him. He couldn’t leave the show cuz he signed contract (Thankfully fans didn’t vote for him in the end and let him go) but maybe the author is trying to go for their variation sort of story where mc doesn’t wanna be in a group just wanna be solo????
