So it’s mostly just flashbacks from ML’s pov detailing how ML fell for MC.

ML, and Layla have this tradition of having tea every Tuesday, Layla brought along MC as a friend and ML originally didn’t like MC because she’s intruding on ML Layla time. But ML eventually gets used to MC and comfortable with MC. Layla rejects ML and tells him his feelings are a burden to her and that she doesn’t want to be his only friend (that’s why when MC mentions she’s lonely ML has a big reaction).

ML and MC hangs out without Layla since she’s busy with Derrick. ML comforts MC when she was sad her sister copied her painting, at some point MC becomes the love advisor for ML.

When MC dreams about ML getting hurt, she finds ML more often in order to plant hints to help him, as they spend more time together, ML’s parents asks ML if he’ll marry MC (since MC’s a pretty good family), ML gets annoyed at his parents (he hates them for good reason) and end up telling MC that they should keep their distance. MC was sad but keeps her distance, when ML gets hurt, he sees MC’s crying and worried face and contrasts it against Layla who was also worried but was still holding Derrick’s hand.

ML heals and realizes he missed MC but MC is hung up on ML telling her to keep distance avoids ML. They meet again at MC’s sister and CP’s engagement, ML tells her he’s about to go to war, MC tells him he’ll definitely come back safe (from her dream) and ML mentions a play that MC wanted to watch before. The play is about a lady giving a handkerchief to a soldier, hinting that ML wants a handkerchief from MC. MC did end up embroidering one but didn’t meet up with ML because something happens to her family, her sister ran away or something.

ML goes to war and realizes he was over confident but remembers MC’s belief in him coming home safe so he works hard. ML sees MC again when his father passed away and that’s when MC comforts him and gives him the handkerchief. ML comes back from war and tries to meet up with MC, he notices the red haired knight and was jealous.

ML and MC has tea time and asks each other their marriage prospects, MC replies she wants to be with someone who respects her (hence why ML always speak formally to her).

Layla sends the “letter” around this time. ML is pissed that Layla is butting in and realizing that he doesn’t respect Layla anymore as he lost his feelings for her and as she is the type of person who would tell someone (ML) who used to love her to marry her best friend (MC) without caring for neither of their feelings. ML loses all respect for her and pens the reply roughly.

He does care for MC and realizes it’s different than his feeling to Layla and decides he doesn’t want to lose MC to the red hair and sends the marriage proposal.

ML does develop feelings for MC even before the proposal, he just doesn’t know what it was, his parents messed him up greatly, Layla was leading him on the whole time until she gets together with Derrick, even then she has no boundaries…

ML and MC are both not very good with communication, MC never told ML what she wants and hoping ML will display affection on his own, while ML is afraid him showing his feelings will scare MC away (Layla told him that him being possessive burdened her and she didn’t like it).

No, ML truly loves MC, he did have feelings for Layla but he was just confused and he clearly recognizes his feelings towards MC is different. Layla was more like a lifeline/family since his own parents were terrible and he wanted to be loved.

I have a tendency to run on too long… anyways summarizing the memorable moments for me, I only skimmed the war part as I was getting sleepy… would’ve preferred more lovey dovey sweet potato moments but alas.

• The couple goes back to “normal”, ML makes an effort to show affections, calls MC by her name but still doesn’t really talk about deep issues since he’s afraid

Spoiler: Thoughts on Layla

initially I thought Layla was an annoying person, but she’s also pitiable, she didn’t really socialize, only had ML as friend growing up.

She was a tomboy and only liked swords and not good at typical lady like things. She really liked MC as she’s her first girl friend, she envied MC as MC was lady like unlike her.

She was way out of her league marrying Derick becoming grand duchess so she couldn’t do well managing the duchy or socialize with northern noble ladies.

After her 3rd baby, her body declined and can’t even swing a sword properly (one thing she’s good at) and got postpartum depression. Derrick was also busy and didn’t spend enough time with her to notice until she ran away to capital.

She didn’t really mean that she wants to marry ML, just that she was upset her life changed so much - losing friends, losing swordsmanship, only have Derrick/kids in the North.

She behaved like a teenager because that was her wanting to relive her happiest time - with friends, lover and youth.

MC envied her because she was different but she was just a naive quirky girl who was lonely, albeit charming and pretty capturing the hearts of ML and Derick.

She does learn that growing up and having a family means priorities change towards friends and it’s normal, she didn’t force any relationship after saving ML.

Spoiler: Thoughts on Chloe

MC has serious inferiority complex, growing up she got compared to her genius painter sister and the sister who becomes crown Princess. Dreaming about the story made her feel inferior to Layla as she thinks Layla is the heroine. As I read the story, I liked MC less and less, she herself also doesn’t communicate but she blames everyone but herself.

At least Layla is genuine in wanting to be friends despite not recognizing boundaries. Layla truly reflects on her actions, but MC is just always woe is me, ML didn’t communicate, Layla says the wrong thing, sister copied her painting (she didn’t even try to understand her sister when her sister was always nice to her! Her sister was dying of an illness and had so much pressure from her parents, yes she made a mistake but sister repented right away).

In ML’s prophetic dream, ML was repenting about his actions, but dream MC given a second chance decided to lead ML on so she can get his sperm to have a baby and then let the baby not know his dad growing up, not thinking how that’ll screw up a kid. I know the author made it out to have MC still “love” ML isn’t that dream timeline but it still felt kinda psycho to me… she planned it for years!!

She just didn’t seem to have reflected on how her attitude also hurt other people, only focused on being a victim. I guess she did reflect a bit for Abel but she immediately jumps to blaming ML the next scene.

 

What I got after reading this is that everyone in the novel needs therapy like things wouldn't have turned out like that if they all talked it out (This has been talked a lot from the past pages but this just confirmed it all)

 

Same here. As I read my hatred for her character grew. It is normal to felt insecure, lonely and doubtul given her circumstances. But she never looked into the good side of the coin. She let her bad memories of that person prevail over the good memories she had with them. And when people tried to explain their side or apologized; it's either she don't give him/her a chance or stubbornly closed her mind. She expected people to understand her without explaining her side to them. She will just gave them her piece but don't let them say their piece. She's actually unfair and selfish.

I only read till ch 50 and just read the spoielrs so this thoughts is strictly based on that.

Spoiler: I dont think Chloe's prolong hurt and anger is unjustified

Living as Chloe is a fucking pain and suffering. Shes very genuine but naive and prone to be a martyr because thats how she is raised alongside her "perfect" sister.

Also let me tell you in advance that I acknowledge how shit Chloe is in dealing with stress and anger. She does not speak and keep spiralling down more and more into negativity, once she got invalidated by the one has beef with, she will ran miles away not wanting to talk about it anymore and just cry about it blamming herself and then everyone eleses.

Everyone in this story uses Chloe for their own convenience, except for Herace, (this will be a healing/comfort novel if she were to marry him instead lol).

Layla genuinely happy Chloe became her friends, but Layla uses her as she see fits, she never sacrifice anything for Chloe, she uses her, to keep Gerard around and at the same time keeps him away from her time with Derrick. She spouts so many hurtful shit towards Chloe that made even my stomach churns. She has ppd sure, but her actions of being greedy and wanting everything and everyone to love and stays with her always, hurts basically everyone including derrick imho.

Cathrine... Man... Idk what to say about her, she cares about Chloe but she also uses her and put her down as she sees fits. She is very demanding and hates it when Chloe do something rebellious against her will. She hates both gerard and layla because the rumour surrounding them which i think its fair. But restricting Chloe circle of friend just isnt it. She plagiarized Chloe's painting after shitting on it, and gained praises from her plagiarized painting, and even have the audacity to berates Chloe for justifiably angry about it. She never really apologizes genuinely, took her pride on a stride and run with it and still has even more of the audacity to control Chloe relationship again.

Tbh at first I quite like both Layla and Cathrine but their flaws outweigh the goods.

Gerard... Lmao... The confused, chaotic, mad obsessed, pathetic low EQ of a man. I said he is pathetic because how obsessed he was with Layla, he repeatedly stalks her, isolate her, and insisting her into marrying him, and how petty he is for hating Chloe for her eye color(which he later loves, i know). This whole arc of his past is pure torture to read

Gerard was a sad sad ssad little bitch, who hates everything except Layla, he has shitty past, and shitty family, but he was also so edgy and annoyingly self centered, I just cant with the past him.

After being heart broken repeatedly by Layla, he find comforts in Chloe, he also uses Chloe for his own convenience to get more information about Layla, and to make his Layla stalking(a hyperbole) daily activity easier. At one time he even make Chloe drunk to make her spill something about Layla but Chloe being a good friend that she is to both of them, keep her mouth shut. I personally find this part really hillarious.

He grew to like Chloe, sure. He knew how genuine she is, the length that Chloe has done for him. And after the war, he saw Layla who doesnt even care as much as half of how Chloe did. Then... His illusion of Layla is finally broken I guess?

But here is the thing about the letter which cause all of this chaotic shit. If he replied with the feeling he was annoyed by Layla and angry with her (his own words not mine), why tf he complied with her request so timidly in the letter, like tf. Just tore that letter and burn it and tell Layla to mind her own fucking business, because thats how he said he trully felt.

Even when Chloe talk it out with Layla, Layla acted as if, Gerard did marry Chloe because of her request which crushed Chloe completely, OF COURSE THIS THE AFTERMATH OF YOUR REPLY GERARD, OF COUUURSEEE.

I think the betrayals that Chloe felt is 100% justified. Even after Gerard apologize in the carriage when Chloe threw his response to layla(? Or was it laylas letter? It wasnt clear). He just says he is sorry because he was angry at layla... (seriously gerard?)

I think it is very fair for Chloe to not be able to accept this apology right away. Also her anger has festered because he dismissed her before when she wanted to talk it out.

Idk man nobody except Abel is truly on her side. Nobody ever genuinely apologize and tell Chloe they love her, and thankful for what she has done (sure Gerard feels this way but he never say it out loud). Nobody ever compensate for her benefits, it is always her, and her only who has to compensate for her loved ones, forgive and sacrifice her feelings for her loved ones.

Also the future thing? I dont hate Chloe since the dream is only prophetic (it could be a bad dream too since gerard has a lot of them when he was anxious). and we dont know how fuck up the things that did not shown have influence her. This is like the mix of what happened to Bianca's from Marriage of Convenience and the mc from My dear Aster. And most ppl forgives them for it. So why not Chloe? she wasnt even the one who dreams it, and the current Chloe does not even thought about it.

Anyway maybe Chloe will be far more insufferable than of her from ch. 50. But my point about everyone else has done her dirty still stands.

okay, i know that there;s a lot of this kind of trope in ropan K novel but I'll say it agian.
What in the actual fuck of a reason is that to hate your own son. Like bruhh woman really??? You hate your own son just because an obsession with your dead ex-fiance? What a bitch mom, now look what you did to your own son

 

I’m in a bad mood now, after reading this thread. I was looking for angst, but i can’t stand so many dumb characters. I bet the 3rd timeline must have good when she ran away and settled down somewhere else. I don’t understand what was the point of turning back time, it didn’t do any help, it’s the the same scenario. At least she was happier in the 3rd timeline after leaving him. I felt like the author didn’t really have much idea on how to progress this story, so they just prolonged the same misunderstanding, and not much of redemption (i won’t even call it redemption, it was like they justified their action).

 

Sheesh the mc was really done in by the ppl around her. Before falling for her the ml was only really using her whenever things weren't going well between him and Laila I really despise him for that he should've apologized more for leaving her when she was his partner to the ball only to go and confess to Laila I mean didn't he feel ashamed at all to go and vent to her after doing smthin like that smh and Laila she really is self centered and selfish she really lead the ml on for that long and even after marriage refuses to put boundaries between and keeps crossing lines she is the kind of character that has to get everything that she wants without compromises and regardless on whose feelings she's stomping to get it as can be seen from the letter she wrote and when she ran away to the capital because she was feeling lonely and the words she said while she was there like her loneliness does not excuse her saying smthin like that it shows her total disregard for boundaries and the feelings of ml and mc and her own husband cuz there are some things u should just not say
And the mcs sisters ,the oldest that is way too controlling even though she meant well and the second oldest who plagiarized her work and betrayed her even though she loved the mc and knew it was wrong becuz of stress from other ppl.
As for the mc herself she knew she wasn't okay being a second thought to the person she loved as she should and hated the ambiguity of her relationship to the ml but didn't even attempt to clarify it even once but is surprised now that it is falling apart around her after 8 years I dislike her passivity about her relationships . The one thing I hate most is that she gave up her title for marriage with a guy she had uncertain and ambiguous relationship with because smthin like this could've turned out very badly for her also her lack of ambition it's not really a bad thing but I personally dislike it
