I wished Odette didn't forgive him so easily and that he deserved to grovel more . But we have an incoming war and knowing that he got his biggest punishment in the form of letting Odette go, i am ready to let this slide On the other hand, despite her getting so many wounds from the people close to her she still possesses the biggest heart.
That, and there is very big chance that he won't come back alive. Let's be real he is commander in front lines, he will be target because he is cause of enemies previous defeat, plus nightmares and sleepwalking. In modern world doctors would not let him go because of mental health. Odette departed with him with sense of relief despite being sad, but he left with sense of burden he truly doesn't have any hope left and that is dangerous for man who is going in war.
My heart felt the pain that Odette & Bastian felt, it was so suffocating. This pain is a lie he said til the end you both can't tell your true feelings, I mean "I love you, I love you" only reaches the heart and cannot be spoken. Tbh I really support this couple. For sure they will never fit together if they don't express their true feelings , I'm grateful they forgive each other tho.. but how could they not be honest? gosh this is really torturous. Bastian hides his departure for the battlefield, and Odette still stubbornly hides her feelings. Huftt, but with this Bastian's story is still long- alright, I will see how it ends for both of them.. anyway it must be the best for them ya.
Ely thank you very much again, you quickly let us read the new chapters. I felt their broken-hearts, their wish to be strong to move on... A very strong chapter, Solche is a real woman of letters. She reached her summit in this novel, to express unspoken feelings between two person. I'm so keen to know about the rest of the story♥️
Thanks @Elyriona for updates, as always Skimming through CEBIYB to find information about the war: It will end by the next summer. There aren't significant mentions about naval battles. I only know that Berg were winning at the beginning but struggled later and then ended up lost. Berg's defeat doesn't sound very optiministic to me but let's hope for the best . Edit: Sorry, I made a mistake. Berg's side won but they certainly struggled at the later stage.
Now you are scaring me. Are we sure it is the same war? After all it is spoiler for big event for another novel, but nothing is surprising author sure loves to torture us readers. Winning at first but struggling after death or retreat of wounded young naval commander.
Sorry, I made a mistake. Berg's side won but they certainly struggled at the later stage. It must be the same war because it involves Lovita and Berg. Keep in mind that's just the general outlook of the war. I couldn't find how it went on the navy side.
Oh my, I was away for too long from this thread. Thanks for the new update Ely. I forgot some details about the war but I'm guessing Bastian will end up in the hospital as well. It was Berg... wasn't it? Where Matthias was admitted after being found by his Uncle..or was it Lovita? Anyway, I have this feelings which says Bastian may end up wounded (but presumed dead). The battle was intense and there were many casualties and deaths. If you guys have read CEBIYB you'll know there from Kyle's pov (not much highlighted) that the need of medics on the battlefield was way too much, I know it's a battle so ofcourse there will be, but this was in the sense, the battle was very intense that they (medical officers) weren't able to have any rest for even a few minutes, they'd to run to the soldiers and treat them as the attacks were ongoing (back to back). The situation escalated at the time when Matthias had freed Leyla and there was a lot of bombing from the enemy's side on them. I'm not worrying though, cause the ML is ML for a reason and won't die, the most the author will do is making him lose one or two limbs. Prepare yourself for angst though. The author is quite unexpected, who knows, what twist or change she makes ahead. She might as well, spare Bastian and leave him unharmed for Odette to go back to. P.S - Odette may also end up pregnant again in the meanwhile.
What a beautiful way of writing, leaving this praise here again for Solche. Ain't no one like her, she makes us hate, love, cry, pity, laugh, regret etc....almost all the emotions in just a book.
Been lurking for awhile and I am glad to find this thread. The story is quite interesting.Lots of angst and opportunities for healing, hopefully. Usually Korean writers go for happy endings, unlike Japanese that tends to cling to melodramatic, tragic, or open ended story endings. So I guess, Bastian and Odette will get a happy ending. (Crossing Fingers)
The more I think about the general mood of the story, the more I feel like Bastian wouldn't die but wouldn't return fully intact either. He might not become an invalid (I hope not), but he might loose an eye/an ear or get a scar on the face or something... Or maybe Solche would decide to be kind and let him return intact
Hence you mention this, may be this injury could be not physical but mental, since Solche gave the signal with the nightmares. May be he will comeback shutdowned with the anger and angst that he suffers. And heals with Odette's care and intention ♥️
I don't think he'd develop more psychological problems from the war because he's already a veteran. But who knows, let's see...
Yes, I'm pretty sure their won't be any psychological scars, if there are, they will be healed by Odette before the book ends.
I think the war arc should be wrapped up in about 10 chapters or so, or even shorter if the author decides to write with Bastian's perspective. Meanwhile, some fanarts from sizh-sama Spoiler: Fanarts, nsfw
I know there is no tragedy tag but the way it's going, is like death flag. I don't see, how they will come together after such a clean sayonara! Oddete never looked back, she is ready to move forward and Bastian didn't put his heart out. I am getting eren vibe from SNK manga, where after his death, we came to know he loved mikasa and did everything to keep his important people safe.
