Hey, as it says in the title I'm looking for a novel the centres around a virtual reality game where there is sci-fi so like a game that maybe takes the whole universe into it and other cool things like that. (just so you know I have read The Gam3). Thanks for the recommendations :)
edit:does not have to be VR but maybe a bit of game elements would not be bad

Well... i can't think of antyhing... maybe not exactly VR (well, it was VR before it become reality) but Life Mission is set in future (year 2060 i think?) where humanity is pretty advanced but... well... to not spoil anything you would need to try it.

Are you asking for a VRMMO where the game has sci-fi elements or a story where reality and VR intersect?

If the former, then maybe ... Universe Online, I think it was on RRL. Not sure on it's status though. It's a VRMMO where the game is a sci-fi one.

For the latter there is Godly Thief Incarnation ... It's not super Sci-fi ... more of a mash-up between a VRMMO and a Xuanhuan set in a post-apocalyptic-ish future.

I'm the author of Universe Online, which is sci-fi VR. You can still read a few chapters of it on RRL, but because I've published it on Amazons Kindle Select program, I had to remove most of it from public viewing.

Feel free to check out what you can though.

So after starting to read The Gam3, it kind of reminds me another novel I read a while back called The Player of Games by Iain M. Banks.

It's an interesting novel where humanity has begun to colonize the universe and has reached a such a high technological level that people have essentially become immortal, society is entirely automated, and as a result people spend most of their time doing leisure activities.

It follows a character who's known as 'the best gamer' throughout humanity, who has become bored with life. He's recruited by the government to become an ambassador to an alien race that was recently discovered, and the alien race's entire society revolves around a single, impossibly complicated game that is used to solve any and all issues their society faces. Power, politics, economics, war, peace; everything is dictated by the game, and for the alien race to join humanity's alliance they are asked to play.

It was a good read. It's not VR, but it's got that 'all encompassing game' aspect you're probably looking for. You should be able to find a pdf or epub of it somewhere online.
