i never watch that anime, but the part that you mentioned was on my tiktok fyp one time and I've been traumatized since then

OMG the novel on Google Play is illustrated and I'd believe it if they said the same artist was doing the manhwa because they look -exactly- the same!

Also how does this not have a Novel Updates page???

The book is saying "brother" a lot but I can't help but wonder if it's maybe a term of affection? Because they are from two different empire-founding bloodlines, look completely different, and have different powers?

 

Editing to add: I feel it necessary to say that butler Pedro is my favorite. I'm 3/4 of the way through volume one and he just rated the Duke's interaction with our MC -5 out of 10, to his face.

Same conversation: “I am very happy that the head of the family is finally becoming an adult.”

Aside from her time in the orphanage in both lives, she was raised not to ask for things in her first life (the scientist was an abusive bastard), so she has a -lot- of trouble asking for things from the Duke. She's hyper-aware of being a fake, contract daughter, so she can't even bring herself to ask for spending money.

So, to make a needful purchase in town, she cut and sold her hair. That's why it's short on the first cover and growing out on the others. She started out with long pigtails, cut it, and I'm guessing she'll let it grow out again.

The artist really did a nice job with this, too, because the covers remind me a lot of the times when I decided to grow out my bangs and how gathering your hair up differs depending on how long it is.

(I'm leaving out a lot of spoilers because the manhwa is going to be a riot when these scenes are posted.)

 

One of my favorite things about this story is that the MC has just enough knowledge of her past life in Korea to nail all of the novel tags herself. She pegs this as a reverse harem just after meeting the final character from the first book cover, in book three.

In that vein, the Duke of Green, Master of all Plants, is a hidden green forest and I'm 100000% sure the pun is on purpose.

Spoiler: About the best cookies in the world.

So, the forum mentioned previously that Anisha/Annette has his daughter's body but not soul. Their first conversation after she reveals this to him (and he reiterates that she IS his daughter, no matter the shell or soul) is about how he is going to conquer the Whipper Kingdom to ensure her a steady supply of the best cookies in the world.

But, of course, he's not going to conquer it for himself, he'll put the kingdom in her name. He's completely serious about the whole thing.

She talks him down from conquering the poor kingdom, but does feel very loved at the gesture.

Spoiler: Her heart-to-heart with her dad about the ramifications of saving her.

As soon as the cookie issue is settled, they discuss how to save Anisha/Annette, and how it would mean that the OG Annette's soul can't return to this body.

“But Dad, are you really okay?”
“What do you mean?”
"just… , and all of this.”
Dad looked at me quietly and pushed me the half-full cookie container.
“It’s not like I’m fine.”
He said with a slightly tired expression.
"But I’m not so young that I'm stuck in the past. I wasn’t the only one who lost a child in those days.”
There are many children killed or lost during times of chaos and upheaval.
This is the same for children of nobles and commoners.
… I know that.
“But thanks to you... .”
My dad lowered his upper body, made eye contact with me, and smiled.
“It’s okay because we met again like this .”
“…….”
“I met my daughter and met my new daughter, so it’s just a good thing for me.”
He said calmly.

Ahhh I love this man.
