Edit: I added spoiler tags so its easier to read Spoiler: MC Yoo Seol Cheep MC is a student that ends up getting transported to a story he was reading that is a BL. He becomes a bird for some reason and he's really funny and pretty dumb. They do say that because he became a bird his brain became smaller and that's why he is dumb. Because he is only capable of simple thought. However I do think he is also pretty dumb when he is a human too lol. He becomes human around ch 25 and it is a rather painful transformation and he is unable to move without pain for a while after he transforms. Bird name is Peep/Cheep and human name is Yoo Seol. Spoiler: ML Duke Karhan ML is the Duke Karhan. The Duke is a half "Arma". Arma are a species that are (from my understanding) an offshoot of the dragon race. They can do magic, have heightened senses, and immortal. They however do not gave the mental fortitude for immortality so all except 1 committed suicide. ML is only half Arma so he doesn't have magic or immortality but he does have hightened senses and can live a very long time. It is mentioned that he is sever hundred years old. He also has a younger adopted Brother named Arthur. Arthur is rather arrogant and proud to be the duke's brother. ML also has a butler named Claude. Nothing much to him, he's an old dude that fills the loyal servant archetype. Spoiler: Asmil The antagonist so far is Asmil. Asmil is the last Arma and is rather phycopathic in my opinion. He enjoys messing with people for his amusement and is quite sadistic. He is very very old and I'm pretty sure he only lived so long bc he is a very twisted individual. Either by birth or to help him cope with his immortal life. He ha magic abilities and can mind control people. He is the one to trigger MC transformation from bird to human. He developed a fascination with MC because MC is a manaless individual (due to him being from another world he has no mana and is not affected by others people mana). After their forst encounter he forcibly inserts his mana into MC and triggers a veyr painfuk transformation for MC. Once he sees this he decides to stop messing with the marquis and changes his target to MC. He has a "sidekick" named Asdion. Asdion is obsessed with Asmil and calls him master. They do some very smexy stuff together. He is a masochist and seems to have a long lifespan, maybe he is a lizard shapeshifter? Or he is also a dragon. Not too many details on him. He does get jealous of MC because Asmil developed quite a fascination to him, much to everyone's dismay. Spoiler: Deon Deon is (I'm pretty sure at this rate anyway) the 2nd ML but he is also the original love interest of the Duke in the OG story. He is a mercenary and comes across the Duke while he is gathering info for a client about the Marquis. The Marquis is only really relevant for the first arc as he is the one Asmil is currently messing with. The Marquis becomes quite corrupted due to Asmils interference and he becomes greedy and also starts a human trafficking ring. Deon and the Duke work together to take down the Marquis which ends up in an encounter between Asmil and MC. Deon seems to find MC funny and cute and he is the first person along with Asmil that sees MC in his human form. Spoiler: Liras Another notable character is Liras. He is a dragon shapeshifter. And he loves to mess with MC. He thinks MC is funny and very gullible. He also senses something is off with MC but doesn't act on it that much. Just teases him. He helps MC feel better and he provide vital information. He does have contact with Asmil and while he technically prevents Asmil from going "too far" he never really stops Asmil too much and tends to let him do his own thing. Spoiler: Marquis Arc After Bird MC and the duke become quite buddy buddy the Marquis arc starts. Basically the Duke is suspicious about what's going on in the land he appointed the Marquis in due to suspicious disappearances and tampered documents he's been receiving from the Marquis and his assistants. He also notes with his heightened senses that the assistant the Marquis sends to him seem to always be nervous and lying to him. He decides to investigate in person and makes to leave to check out what's going on. Originally Mc wasn't supposed to tag along but he snuck into the bag by accident. ML discovers him like halfway and he feels bad bc he sees that MC is pretty beat up from being jostled around in the bag. While they rest Deon pops up and says he's going the same way as well and says he's a recent resident of the land. Deon notes that he's lying and is immediately on gaurd. However this is where Peep realizes that he is in a specific BL novel he read that he barely remembers and recognizes Deon as the original love interest in the novel. And tht Deon and ML are supposed to end up together for this story to end so that he can go back to his world. This does lead into the trope where MC is convinced that ML can't love him like that bc ML has Deon. So MC decides that he needs to set then up. Deon quite likes MC ans thinks he is funny and cute while he finds ML quote intimidating. ML is funny bc he gets overly protective of MC in this scene and won't let MC go take a closer look at Deon until MC sqwak quite angrily at him. Anyway bc of MC interference in the plot already the relationship between ML and Deon is already impacted. Mc tries to fix this by dragging Deon over to where ML and the horse is by his hair. This leads to a hilarious scene where ML awkwardly invites Deon to ride with them to the town and and incredible stiff and uncomfortable ride ensues until they desperately part ways in the town lmao. Mc takes a fat nap and ML goes to the guild to gather info. She tells him about ppl going missing and he asks her to forge a false document that basically states he got an arrest warrant from the imperial family. He also asks for info on Deon. He finds out that Deon is a mercenary. When MC wakes up he doesn't see the Duke so he goes out and spots Deon in which he comically (accidentally) poops on Deons face lolol. This prompts Deon to grab him and drag him to his room. Where he proceeds to clean himself while Peep feels really embarrassed and guilty. Deon is trying his very hardest from not dying of laughter from seeing a bird feel bad about pooping on his face. When Peep realizes that Deon is tricking him he gets angry, in which Deon bursts out laughing and says that since they both did something bad that they are even now. Peep thinks "isn't that too light for pooping on your face!?" But accepts anyway. He drags Deon back to ML and the duke confronts Deon for lying to him and asks his true intentions. Deon confesses to lying and cautiously asks what side the Duke is on since his client isn't fond of the Marquis he appointed. The Duke replies that of the Marquis did something wrong he would punish him. So Deon tells the Duke that his clients son is missing after working for the Duke to pay off his debts. They talk and conclude that the Marquis is probably picking up desperate people and vagrants off the streets to sell. Since most of the time those people do not have any family that cares. They devise and a plan and dress as vagrants in the middle of the night. They get caught by some guards which forcibly lead them to the Marquis's house and the guards laugh while talking about making money by sending vagrants to the Marquis. When they reach the residence the Marquis makes them kneel and in this scene the Duke decides to reveal his identity which terrifies everyone. He decides to take the poor excuses and asks for some of the documents so he can check on the ongoings in the land. The next few days he gathers evidence and waits for the guild to finish making the fake search and arrest warrant. Deon wants to investigate a place he finds suspicious and the duke agrees to keep the Marquis busy. Peep decides to tag along. They discover evidence of the trafficking and while they head out they are caught by Asmil. Asmil tries to get the documents from Deon with mind control but MC blocks Deon from moving forward. Curious as to why his powers isn't working on the MC he grabs him and realizes that mc has no mana. So out of curiosity he forcibly inserts his mana into mc triggering a painful transformation. Asmil decides to leave them alone and stop messing with the Marquis because he has found a more interesting target in Peep. He promises to come back and visit Peep later. He's a very creepy dude. Deon who watched all this happen realizes that Peep is bleeding terribly and calls out for help. In the meantime the Duke is dealing with the Marquis. He presented the fake search warrant and arrests him while he waits for all the evidence to reach the imperial palace so he can get an actual warrant. Marquis seems mentally strange and the duke is confused as to why he changed so much as the Marquis wasn't always so twisted (hint hints it's Asmil). He realizes something is up where Deon and Peep are and goes to check it out. By now Asmil is gone and all he sees is a bloodied human Peep (that he doesn't recognize) and Deon desperate fore help. Deon tells him that the unconscious boy is Peep and that Peep isn't a regular bird but actually part of the Avion race of beastman able to transform from beats form and human form. Peep is a delicate little white boi with white hair. And thus ends the MarquisArc!!
So I did read a bit more after the Marquis Arc but to be honest I may drop it. The main couple is kind of giving me the ick ngl. I've been in the anime/manga/etc world for a long time so I definitely have a tolerance to a lot of things, especially age differences. BUT in this one MC is just like way to much like a child its almost uncomfortable? Like he's so dumb and kind of spoiled compared to the ML who is like several hundred years old and mature and "cold". Sometimes its hard to imagine MC even as a college student? Like there is so much attention brought to the cuteness and innocence and naivety of the MC that honestly I'm like a little creeped out. I usually don't mind crazy age differences like this because I know this is all fictional, its fake, blah blah blah, but when MC is acting too much like a child it really makes me question the author a bit too much. Its fine when the MC is acting like an adult and even with age difference as long as they act and make decisions like an adult I don't really care. MC is really freakin funny though I will give him that. Anyway, I'm not sure if I'll keep going at this rate but let me give you guys what I read so far. Spoiler After Mc collapses he wakes up 5 days later in extreme pain. His body hurts to move and he can't walk. He doesn't realize he has become human at first until he is told by the Duke. When MC wakes up he is surprised he can communicate at all and thinks "I can finally speak"! But when the Duke looks at him funny MC decides to look around and realizes he and the Duke are at a human to human level lol. The Duke suddenly gets up and leaves saying he has work to do. After this Deon comes and visits MC. One to check up on him and another to say goodbye. Deon needs to go somewhere. MC responds by asking him to make sure he "returns" to him. Deon looks at him kind of funny but agrees. Also comedy ensues in this part because Deon teases him a bit, like bringing up the poop incidence again lol. MC of course gets angry again when he realizes he's being played with. And then he tells Deon "Not to make fun of the elderly" because MC believes he has become an old man due to his white hair. Because of this he has been avoiding the mirror completely so he has no idea he is actually a beautiful young man. Deon uses all of his power to not laugh and says goodbye to MC without telling him he is not old. MC believes that the sudden tremors and the fact that Deon hunched over and put his hand over his mouth meant that Deon was afraid of him lmao. MC's goes through some physical therapy and while it is still hard to move he is feeling better as the days go on. However, the Duke has not visited him once, and the MC is depressed because he thinks that since he is an old man instead of a cute bird that ML no longer likes him. During a massage session he begins to cry, which really freaks out the massager and he hurriedly finishes and runs to the Duke to tell him that MC is acting strange. Duke immediately rushes to see MC because he is worried, and realizes that MC has been waiting for him to visit the whole time and feels pretty bad about it. Mc asks him if he doesn't want to talk to him anymore, which takes ML back a bit and he basically confesses that since MC has become human he was unsure of how to treat him. This is the part where MC says he gets it since he is now an old man that it must be hard to know what to do next. The Duke is very shocked by this statement and tells MC he is not old. MC is confused to ML brings a mirror over and when MC covers his face (because he doesn't want to see his "old" face lol) he gently pets his head until MC relaxes and takes a peak into the mirror. Then MC realizes that he is beautiful and suddenly understands that Deon was laughing at him the whole time lol. MC is very embarrassed lolol. After this the question changes to him asking if the Duke dislikes him, which the duke denies and then calls him very cute. Peep is a bit upset at being called cute but decides to forgive Karhan for calling him that just once lol. Scene change to the Marquis going crazy saying that "that man is going to help him and save him". Asmil does show up and basically spells out to the Marquis that he was only a plaything to him. This breaks the Marquis so much that he commits suicide. The Duke notes the suicide as suspicious, and since he was told what happened to Peep from Deon he guesses pretty accurately that Asmil is an Arma and is the one involved in the situation. Back to MC and ML, Peep is told about a 3 day festival which has something to do with the moon and magic, and he really wants to participate. ML decides to make time and tells Peep that he needs to be able to walk if he wants to go. Peep readily agrees and is very excited. He begins to practice walking with ML and is improving all though he is walking a bit like a duck sue to not being used to the balance lol. At one of these practice sessions he asks Karhan to call him by his actual name Yoo Seol, and says that ML can call him Seol. The 3 day festival begins at midnight and just as it strikes midnight MC is in sudden extreme pain, and UH OH its Asmil coming into his room from the window. Asmil seems to enjoy seeing MC in pain and teases him. MC tries to rip out his hair but he has no strength and Asmil laughs at him. The Duke rushes in and separates the 2 and moves to protect Seol. Asmil leaves some cryptid message about how theres only a few reasons why people would get sick during the festival and introduces himself. He tells Seol to call him Admil the next time they meet and then he leaves. The Duke rushes ML to Liras, the last known dragon in this world. Intersession with Asmil doing something very not child friendly with his assistant Asdion. Uh lets just say it didn't go as far as smexy times do, but there was sadistic Asmil teasing Asdion with his foot, and then dragging Asdion to his privates and then they were interupted! And this is where we find out Asmil had been adopted into a noble family! ANYWAY, back to out main duo, they have rushed to Liras where Liras begins to check whats going on with MC. MC is freaked out by Liras because he can suddenly change his eyes to look like snakes, and also change his tongue to a forked tongue. Liras is amused by this and will continue to heavily tease our poor Cheep in the future. Cheep does end up fainting due to the pain at this point. Anyway Liras realizes that MC has no innate mana and finds it rather curious. Liras deducts what happened on the night that Cheep was transformed and tells ML that because Cheep originally has no mana that the additional mana from Asmil was causing an overflow, basically the Cheep's vessel is cracking and if left alone he will die. ML is very disturbed and asks what he can due. Liras says that their is only 1 cure and that is the perpetrator's blood. Which means they need Asmil's blood. Of course Karhan is very opposed to letting MC anywhere near him. When considering the options they conclude that the can only take it from Asmil willingly because there is no way to force Asmil to as he is much stronger than Karhan. Liras is of course more of an observer and he will not be doing anything to Asmil. Liras says he will talk to Asmil though. Liras also says that there is no other way to cure it but there is a method to extend MC's life for the moment, and that is to use copious amounts of Karhan's blood. In the meantime Seol has a dream from when he was in his OG world where is saved a very familiar looking bird. A pure white round bird. Then the world goes dark and he hears Karhan's voice and wakes up in Karhan's bed. Seol was asleep for 5 days once again. Karhan calls Seol by his name for the first time and its cute. Anyway I read a bit more than this but I need to rest my typing hands so I'll leave it at this.
I created an account just for this because YES! I know it's BL and all but it was so wholesome (I could tolerate the romance aspect by deluding myself that it didn't exist between these two TT) until the ML started getting possessive and touchy. It's icky especially after chapter 79!!! Spoiler MC is taken to the elves to hopefully find a solution to his life/death problem and reveals he's 20 years old. Among elves and a long living human, he gets looks of pity. They literally call him a baby, "barely twenty." I don't think it can get more obvious than that that MC is considered a child in the ML's eyes yet ML doesn't seem to care. He takes advantage of the MC's naivety by heavily misinforming him on what normal friendships are just to cop a feel. MC starts by saying no, then feels pressured and guilty. It's essentially lying to a child who believes every word he says and going along with it to not see him upset. Spoiler: Chapter 70 MC is in pain from the excess mana around him and needed ML's blood to calm down his symptoms. ML strategically positions himself on top of him (causing a certain reaction) and when the pain subsides, manipulates him with "friends help each other out with this." Sir? This friend was dying just moments ago and his mind is a mess. He can't be more vulnerable. Later, ML hits him with "kissing is a simple greeting between friends." (MC: Fellas, is it gay for your homie to "help you out" and kiss you goodnight?) On another note, it would've been so cute if it'd been a found family situation because the set up was there! Spoiler MC grew up without parents, in a neglectful home, no pets, and didn't have close friends. A couple chapters after he turns human and was understanding that their relationship wouldn't be the same as when he had just been a bird, he mentions he would like to be considered family! He throws this idea out though when he says he couldn't ask ML to adopt him as his son. If age and appearance was the problem, I can see how it would look a bit odd but honestly...be so fr rn... It's really common for people with pets to consider them their adopted children anyway. Not to mention, ML is centuries old and MC is 20. Would it really be that weird? MC was bought/adopted by the ML and is treated fairly and doted on. MC, rash and immature, plays the role of a child perfectly. It screams found family. That was such a loss... TT And who the hell becomes attracted to their pet bird huh?! Explain that to me! That man is not normal! Living past 400 clearly wasn't good for his human ego. Free my man Seol he deserves better. He's too precious to be going through this. An additional spoiler for the main posts tho: Spoiler The dragon character (I forget his name) has dreams of the original lead couple getting together but because he doesn't know why he is having these visions, he decides to investigate. He says that as a dragon, he doesn't forget people easily so it's odd for him "recall" someone he's never seen before. He starts by asking Karhan directly if he knows who this Doel person is and if they have a close relationship. Surprised to hear that Doel is a real person and that they don't know each other past being acquaintances, his investigations lead him to MC being the only person around who sees those two as having a close relationship despite everyone else not seeing it, including the main pair involved. MC, not wanting to verbally admit that the world he's in is only a novel, remains silent. This only makes the dragon more suspicious because the white bird is the only one who doesn't appear in the dream but seems familiar with the destined route the two leads take as a couple. I'm interested to see where this goes but I'm not holding my breath. I'm bitter.
OMG! I'm glad someone else gets it because I got to when they meet Asmil again at the ball and that's where I was like idk if I can read more bc this is getting weird. Like MC is naked every single time he transformed, and like he sits in the ML's lap like a child, but he's NAKED. It's just like, it feels so oddly sexual, and they haven't even brought it up that much but the mental image of a tiny man, naked, covered only by the ML's jacket, sitting on the ML's lap but having MC not react or be embarrassed about it almost hits home just how much MC is unaware and naive and just how much he trusts ML to not even have the thought pass by, like literally a child who is trusting the person of authority to keep him safe. Like. I want to read more at leats finish the ball scene so i can write a spoiler about it and I'm intrigued by the plot. But the relationship dynamic is reaching the grooming stage and I've officially got the ick.
[Discussion] I came here after reading the manhwa (25 chapters so far) and everything in the spoiler above, so now I'm thinking is it grooming if the man is 20-something and in college but kinda very dumb and naive (obvious since ch. 1 pre-transmigration)? I mean, I get why he's naive seeing as he grew emotionally stunted and thus easy to manipulate by giving love and affection (plus was thrown in a whole new world, with probably diff cultures and stuff wc begs the question if this or that is normal > in wc case its not the MC's fault he's clueless and that just makes the ML the same as every other ml in yaoi and does not make him a groomer but instead a manipulator like every red flag ML) but... as long as they don't confirm he's mentally stunted (as in with the mentality of an actual minor) I'll just pretend he's just a dumb adult and the ML is technically giving him the love and affection that he wants But who knows, my opinion might change too once I actually see it with my own two eyes when it happens in the manhwa
That's a fair point to mention. I did find that grooming isn't limited to minors but that's debatable. The reason it feels so predatory though is exactly because MC is already naive from the start and then put into a world he knows almost nothing about. At one point MC even mentions he's becoming more bird-like: simple minded, without complex thought, following instincts, acting on whims. This translates in his human form to some extent so it looks like our man has only further regressed. He's been convinced by a trusted adult's actions that his old social norms probably don't apply there so he might as well be a newborn because he literally has to learn how to walk again. He's not thinking as a normal 20 year old should nor has the experience to make up for it. MC being 20 apparently doesn't even help when ML own pov betrays him! TT He's weird asf. In any case, even if the world doesn't see it as grooming, you've got to be pretty fkd up if in your own eyes you're dating what's essentially a child and you're fine with that.
