Just like I put in the title. Truly tired of the amount of gender benders that have suddenly flooded the yuri genre. They're not really yuri imo, they're just self-insert fantasy stories about men enjoying 'yuri' for themselves.
It's a trend, I know, and trends come and go, but there's so MANY now.
I wonder if I'm in the minority with this, lol.
Not digging on people liking GB stories, just thinking about the trend and if I'm alone in my annoyance regarding yuri and GB tags.

Both gender bent and TS always bothered me as labels, but maybe it's cause I've seen GB used as a fetish and TS used as a slur. But I think the novel genres should avoid crossing from GB into yuri. I've never read a yaoi that was also a GB (not that they don't exist), so why is it that yuri is flooded with it?
100% with it being GB or TS, not really yuri.

If it's trans women, it can be yuri, if it's trans men, then it's not yuri. I generally avoid GB + yuri, since it usually seems like TS trans men, but I did find one recently where the GB was for the main character dressing like a man and (so far) practicing hitting on women in preparation for seducing the heroine.

Yeah, the rough translation of yuri is "lily" and it's been used to refer to relationships between women specifically, so if you make a guy as the other "girl" then it changes the narrative of the story. If the person is a trans-woman then that is considered yuri if they're gay, but I've not read any GB posted on NU that has a trans-woman protagonist. Kashimashi is an old favorite of mine that sorta borders on a narrative like that, and I liked that one. I'd consider that yuri in a way. But not the modern GB stories that are showing up.

Oh! I started reading that. It's funny, but I'm a little worried about where it's going because of the characters other then the FL. It's a good story so far.

I like it, especially if there's a futa tag included.

Personally im a little more annoyed at the gb = trans than anything really. But i see it as if the body is a girl they are a girl no matter what their "soul" or previous life's gender or preference is. Controversial in todays' world i know.

I mean in buddhism there is reincarnation and in that case we all have been male, female and all sorts of animals if we take into account previous lives even if we dont remember them. In that case wouldnt we all be both straight and gay while committing beastiality/many other fetish out there at the same time if we say our previous lives count as well?

In most if not all novels with genderbend tag, the male identity is mentioned on the beginning and then never mentioned again, which just seem so suspicious.
Like, it seems so unnecessary, they always seem to be using the past male identity as an sort of excuse or justification. There would be no difference if the author just made the protagonist a girl who happens to be a lesbian from the start.
Like, if there was a trans narrative, i would love it so much, after all, for a trans person, i believe that a supernatural/magic transformation that turns your body perfectly into the gender that matches your soul is something that one must dream a lot. Yet they never bring this type of conversation, they mention the male identity, sometimes not even mentioning, but just using the changes of prefix from "He" to "She", and then just continues on as if the mc isn't a dude at heart.
If they are never going to talk or create a narrative around this past identity, then why write about it at all?, isn't it just easier for the Mc to be a girl from the start?, idk, there seems to be something so suspicious about all of this, and at least i have no idea about the reasons, perhaps as a justification to ccp?

I agree, If the gender bend is a man in a woman's body, well that's a trans man having a hetro relationship with a woman not a yuri/lesbian couple. These gender bends stories often completely dismiss trans people from existing and reduce the whole thing into a gimmick too.

The reincarnation narrative only works when one doesn't have the memory of a past life, or when one isn't affected by such memories.
Imagine that in my past life I was a perverted serial killer, and then i reincarnate with all my memories and experiences into a kind and benevolent identity, my perverted personality isn't going to just disappear, and if i still remember all my crimes, then the kind and benevolent body would still be responsible for all the evil I've comitted, no matter how kind and benevolent i am now.

It's only controversial in certain circles. Within the idea of qb = trans is that the characters portrayed aren't trans as there is never anything beyond the typical "I'm a woman! But I was a man!", and that's it. Unless of course you're counting them molesting themselves to "discover" their femininity. You can say that you don't see gender, but the problem is that many GB stories are written from a man's point of view. There is such thing as gendered expression and perspective even though gender is largely a social construct.
Then there's the issue of it being a self-insert fantasy in a lot of stories with the male character winning over a woman (or more often many women) simply because they don't act like the other women.... It's a dismissal of the struggle of being a woman, and even more a dismissal of the struggling of being a trans woman if it's written that way. In my opinion of course.
That's not to say that we shouldn't respect someone's gender or that a man can't easily shift his perspective about his gender. I just think that these stories don't care about the nuance of the character and are only out to satisfy some wish-fulfillment of the author. Or the readers.

Then I'd venture a guess that you are a man who enjoys reading the content for the smut. It's not 'yuri' at that point, it's self-insert, wish-fulfillment, male fantasy spank material. Which is fine, nothing wrong with that material existing. Just that I, personally, think it shouldn't be tagged yuri at that point.

OOOF, lets hope not. Largely just my opinions. Also, I don't think anything needs to go away or be censored. Mostly my thoughts are on the tags and people's opinions on their usage.

i can take or leave GB in yuri (depends on the novel) but this right here is the real plague upon yuri (especially in EN webnovels):
futa is just like the laziest, crappiest "i want het and cliche hardcore-porn-like sex but i dont want het" fetish fuel that should be consigned to "kill it with fire" status.

Almost like all the women writing Yaoi, huh?

And for clarity's sake, I think all gender benders are crap, no matter the content. It's a cheap story gimmick almost every single time. Outside of the very few where it's a serious story based on someone's real-life experience, it's 99% of the time used as a fetish or the author thinks it's funny.

People that don't like a certain fetish, will always come up with the most outlandish explanations for why other people like that fetish. For example I've heard people that hate furry claim that people who are into furry secretly just want to have sex with literal animals.
