I've forgotten how it started but it's revealed at the end that MC and ML met each other at a hospital when they were young -- MC's grandma/mom was admitted (eventually died), and ML was involved in some kind of accident. MC started approaching ML in a friendly manner but ML is prickly. There's also an attempted s-word scene where MC prevented ML from k-wording himself off a building. When MC's mom/gran died, they lost touch but ML has been looking for MC for years.
