As of today, Microsoft has officially retired Internet Explorer. They're gonna slowly start removing support for it over the upcoming months while directing people to edge, before going towards a final shutdown. A lot of old business and government software are built around IE so a lot of sites are going to go down unless they're updated to current standards too I will always fondly remember the many times when I would boot it up to download Firefox. I fondly look back to the very early internet memes about the bowser being super slow, too. Edge is a replacement, but it'll never feel the same. It's been there since I first accessed the internet in the mid 2000's. So long IE, you shall be missed
And that's all the more distressing: the fact I can name at least a couple of our government sites that are going down with IE, for to believe otherwise would be to trust the government's promises on modernization and updation or, in short, to admit that pigs can fly...
I you add to that all of those sites that are built around Flash and that never got updated for the Big Flash Shutdown despite years of pop-ups, a good number of official sites are screwed. Worst thing is that many an official site I've come across was built for Flash-enabled IE...
may the Internet Explorer rest in peace. but fear not, we will keep the meme! adding lag beyond the downtime should keep it amusing for a while...
A lot of sites are just going to remain the same and stick to edge's compatibility mode, but really that's just a stopgap solution
I remember many things from IE. My first Snes roms, the first time I dled porn the first time I watched anime online the first time I read a manga Blue dragon adult version btw. so many things that I did with IE. RIP IE it was fun sailing the high seas with you.
F. but still, for the people of today's era, edge will be more or less the same thing as IE. dont forget you dont live alone folks! get out of your cave once in while will you?
kind of suprised there isnt an accompanied anthropomorphized meme. Something along the lines of IE being forced into retirement, going postal and taking down those sites that sill use its framework as a foundation as revenge. ....... Depending on the sites that go down, could this kick off the apocalypse?
Well, it's about time, I guess? At least there is the Edge compatibility mode for government sites built for IE, so... All is well, I guess~
