Give me the best stuff you've ever read in your entire life. I don't want some generic RPG, and if it IS some transmigration plot (or anything similar), it should be subverting common tropes and providing a new and interesting spin.

Example: I just read Little Mushroom and it was so much better than I expected to be. I suspect I will never forget this novel for as long as I live. I mean this caliber of writing and character development and plot. I honestly prefer character-driven stories over plot-driven ones, but also they are not mutually exclusive.

Anyway, please give me something incredibly amazing. AND it needs a good quality translation. I refuse to sully a novel that's probably wonderful in its mother tongue with a subpar/unreadable translation.

NOTE: this doesn't mean I am not grateful for the efforts of all translators to share these stories with us. I understand they are doing this work for free and I have immense respect for their time and dedication. This is just a preference I have. A reminder that I've read novels of all quality translations and if capable, I have donated to their cause and bought raws. Please take no offense to my requests.

To be honest, there’s the issue of preference when it comes to which novel is great. But if you wish, I’d like to recommend you a few novels that I love so dearly:

    - How to survive as the second son of a mage family: Unfortunately, the translation of this one is not so great. It’s decent at best (I appreciate the translator’s efforts though). But if you ever feel willing to give it a try, I highly recommend reading this. This novel feels as if it uses “fantasy” as a sub-plot, a tool to convey its deep underlying message. These are some quotes (translated by me) from the latest chapter (724) that I really enjoyed:

“….The fact that they are not yet adults, that they are women—every part of that holds significance. Those who had no guaranteed right to education, who were discriminated against, have now risen up through hardened ground to hold the government accountable.

I wanted to ask. How does it feel to be reprimanded by those you tried to erase from the history of humankind? A hen must not crow in front of a rooster—a French proverb. How does it feel to hear the hen’s cry, the very sound you tried to silence and confine for thousands of years? I laughed. I suppose this is what it feels like to laugh so freely when the oppressed finally reclaim the rights they were always meant to have.”

“….If you join our resistance and seek the comfort of familiarity, you will live. But if you do not conform and begin to speak of the unfamiliar, the times will kill you. Sometimes, that resistance says you are not doing anything new. Many women walked this path before, and they were not successful, it says.

Therefore, that resistance proves it. You are walking an unpaved road. You are heading in the right direction. Even if today does not acknowledge you, tomorrow will!….”

    - Got dropped into a ghost story, still gotta work: If you’re looking for something fun, intense and knows how to keep readers gripping their seats, this is for you. I was so immersed in it I read the entirety of the part 1 in a day. There’s a really good English translation for the novel, so I recommend you checking it out (if you haven’t already).

    - Margrave’s bastard son was the emperor: Unfortunately, this one’s English fan translation has been dropped (?) due to Tapas picking it up (hypothetically speaking). If you can handle politics, you should give this a try. The world-building, characters and story were amazing, and I enjoyed every second of it.

That’s all. I hope you can find something of use in my recommendations. Happy reading!

(JP)Eighty Six - Light Novel about discriminated group of soldier sent to their deaths in mechs that might as well be iron coffins against a horde of unfeeling machines and the handler that sympathizes with their situation and tried to keep them alive as much as possible

(JP)Mushoku Tensei - a flawed and arguably piece of shit person gets reincarnated to earn a second chance in life and strives to be a better person. Absolute cinema.

(JP)Youjo Senki - man gets isekai'd after pissing off a god and sent to fantasy alternate world earth during world war 1 as a little girl. War crimes and infodumps await.

(KR)Regressor's Tale of Cultivation - Korean novel in a xianxia setting. Phenomenal storytelling especially since the MC makes every single one of his loops count instead of treating it as a "run". A few arcs made me emotional.

(CN)I Shall Seal the Heavens - One of the few good xianxias. It has a great mix of comedy, emotional moments, and action. Yes the McCultivation copypasta/review is accurate but it's still a great read. Er Gen doesn't miss.

(KR)The Main Heroines are Trying to Kill Me - MC is forced to do horrible shit to save the world. After he travels back in time and right his wrongs the heroines remember the past timeline. The MC deserves a happy ending. Novelpia is nuking the novel btw so you have to rely on pirate sites after they nuke it from the tl site next week. The worst part is that the tl group tried to go legit and contacted novelpia for permission but got hit with the "nuh uh, we never give you permissions lol now read our AIslop in our new cashgrab app instead".

(KR)Demon Prince Goes to The Academy - Author with writer's block gets punished for writing a fun slice of life academy story and ending it with a sudden grimdark apocalypse bad end. The slice of life part of the story was genuinely fun and heartwarming that you forget about the bad end depsite the MC trying his best to stop and it punches you in the gut so hard with the novel's sudden tone shift. Harriet is best girl.

(KR)Moonlight Sculptor - One of the Pioneers of the VRMMO genre. It has great action, comedy and story and most VRMMO novels try and fail to copy its greatness.

(KR)Kidnapped Dragons - MC tired after countless regressions try to kidnap and adopt the dragons that will bring about the apocalypse. Peak. it's getting nuked by novelpia so grab a epub or go to pirate sites.

(CN)Lord of the Mysteries - peak fiction. The power system is one of the best and most unique ones I've read about. The fans are annoying tho because most of them are obnoxious minors.

(CN)My House of Horrors - Horror genre. It's one of the best ones I've read even if it's quality lowered due to chinese censorship laws.

(CN)Little Tyrant Doesn't Want a Bad End - MC gets isekaid as a third rate villain and tties his best to escape his fate. Despite the kinda cliche start is has a great story and well written action. The dogshit manhua adaptation still makes me seethe with rage.

(JP)Marginal Operation - MC is a neet that joined a PMC as an operator and due to circumstances decided to go freelance while managin a group of child soldiers. He absolutely wants them to live a normal life but fate dealt him a shit hand. Novel isn't translated much sadly but the manga is afaik.

(KR)Humanity Protection Company - MC joins an SCP like company after an anomaly appeared during his SAT exam. Sadly nuked by novelpia. Ask around for epubs or go to pirate sites to read it.

(CN)Release that Witch - one of the best technological revolution isekais I've read. Author is an engineer afaik so the knowledge is accurate.

(JP)Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria - The first arc is one of my favorite timeloop stories. It's an amazing read. I agree with the low star reviews but it still doesn't change the fact that it's entertaining.

No Game No Life - yeah

Re: Zero - yeah. You can complain about subaru being kinda cringe at the start but don't deny that it's well written.

    Konosuba - megumin best girl

Kumo Desu Ga Nani Ka - I've been following this novel for years and it cured my arachnophobia.

When I wrote this list I realized how many of my favorite novels translated chapters have vanished. Which is what I am recommending, novels that I truly loved and occupied my mind long after I finished reading them.

Becoming a God in the Zerg World by Livestreaming BL Novels The novel I am currently hooked on interesting premise and a story line full of amazing side stories that continue to keep me intrigued well into the novel.

Becoming Popular Through The “All Villains” Variety Show A humor story that I couldn't stop laughing while reading, a true masterpiece. The characterization of all the character show and highly they flaws and strength and often there flaws are part of there strength. I have reread this five times.

Mother of Learning A universe that in the beginning seems to break it's own rules but doesn't every detail you see in the beginning has more behind it that doesn't meet the eye. It's about the growth of knowledge as time goes on. I reread this novel ten times. It isn't a translation but it is a webnovel.

After Shedding My Armor, I Await Marriage - it starts out as a classic "MC cross-dresses to join the army", but becomes more
Dramatic Fake Young Master Holds the Group’s Favorite Script - fairly unique in that fake kid and real kid are both good kids
Ancient Actor Takes On the Modern Entertainment Industry - this novel has really excellent pacing, going back and forth between their angsty first life and their sweet second life to build the feeling of desire and longing for a happy ending
Sisters Swap Marriage - another story that turns a popular face-slapping trope on its head - no bad guys here
The Chronicle of the Oriole Island - anything I say is probably a spoiler, but you only understand the first chapters after you get to the last one - that said, the plot is clear and not confusing, just layered
