People of NUF, please help me understand what a rajput is. From my understanding, the picture below is one. https://pin.it/1Vm8Bke A rajput comes with a few parts. Did I understanding what they are?? -Angarkhi (short jacket) -Pagdi (head piece) -Chudidar (knee length under shirt) -Pyajama (pants) -Cummerbund (thick belt) I also came across something called a rajputi. Is that the woman equivalent of a rajput??
Ignore rajputi for now, it's not associated with Rajput. There's only Rajput. It's a large multi-component cluster of castes, kin bodies, and local groups, sharing social status and ideology of genealogical descent originating from the Indian subcontinent. The term Rajput covers various patrilineal clans historically associated with warriorhood: several clans claim Rajput status, although not all claims are universally accepted. According to modern scholars, almost all Rajputs clans originated from peasant or pastoral communities. So they're basically a type of descendent. I have no idea what Rajputi is. Edit: If you're looking for the actual definition of Rajput, it means 'Son of a king' so Prince.
Raj is from raja which means king, Put is a short form of putro which means son. So rajput means prince. It's a term we use in Bangla but I'm sure it's used in Hindi too. So I asked my mother and she doesn't know what Rajputi is, also Rajput apparently used to be a family name too of a certain group of people from a specific place. Edit: Oh right, also about payjama. Pa means leg, jama means clothing, so payajama means trousers basically. I've heard pagdhi before but nobody used this word anymore so I don't know. Maybe it's a specific type of hat? Edit 2: I just realized what cummberbund is and it made me laugh. Komor means waist, bund is to tie. So Komorbund would be a waist tie. lol
To quote a film, a true Rajput is the person who fulfills three conditions: 1) He goes to his enemy's house and beats him up in front of his father in the said enemy's house itself 2) He goes to jail 3) He has ridden a horse Spoiler: You know if you know
Rajput used to be a royal clan that emerged from warriors. What you described above is the dress code that was prevalent at their times among them and is still seen as their traditional symbol. they used to be rulers in India and were appropriately named The head piece is called a pagdi or turban, it's often a sign or dignity and respect as it crowns the head. The chudidar is the bottom trouser worn by either men or women it's narrow on the lower legs and has folds (like scrunched up fabric) at the ankle. These folds are in the form of chudi (rings) so it's called chudidar (with rings). Pyjama refers to trousers. What he's wearing is called chudidar pyjama (trouser with ring like folds). This website describes the dress in detail. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.weddingwire.in/wedding-tips/rajputana-dress--c3695-amp.html Sindhi - from sindh (place) Rajputi - from rajput Hindi - from hind
Paghdi means turban. It's usually a long cloth that's wrapped around the head to form like a cap. It used to be of major significance back in the day and nowadays it's become part of groom's attire.
Oh is that so? That's probably why. My relatives are all Christian so we just wear a suit, so that's probably why I haven't come across many paghdis in my life.
Just like there's noble in western history, and there are families ex=any last name title idk. In India Rajput are also nobles with different last name/titles like singh, Choudhary. They're still I'm Indian
Rajput= Raj(royal) + Put(descendents) Indian society is divided into caste system~There is a hierarchy and they are ranked accordingly: Brahmins (Scholars) Kshatriya (Warriors/Kings) Vaishyas (Businessman) Shudras (janitors) Rajputs belong to the Kshatriya Caste. They are primarily concentrated in the Northwestern regions of India. They've ruled over that region for hundreds of years. They are both rulers and famed warriors! Angarkhi, Pagdi, Chudidar, Pyajama, Cummerbund are their Traditional Attire. Though, they only wear it during special events and ceremonies nowadays!!! Rajputi ≠ Female Rajput! It means 'belonging/related to Rajput' Rajputani = Female Rajput!!! ~^^
