I've noticed an unusual increase in the number of LitRPGs amongst the new novels on both NU as well as RRL. While I too can understand the popularity of video games, what with Ready Player One being reasonably good at the box office, the sheer percentage of LitRPGS getting released seems almost overwhelmingly high. Any idea if this was a recent trend or if something else made them popular?

I really hate the chance stats, speed stats, and charm stats and extreme stats...

The LitRPG genre has been growing even before Ready Player One gets a movie adaptation. It started with The Legendary Moonlight Sculpture's popularity and then the Russian and Japanese authors followed the trend which gives the genre it's much-needed publicity. With the growing translation community, the genre's popularity shot up through the roof and here we are now.
    At least that's what I know...:p:p:p

Most of these RPG novels are trash though...

One aspect of good game is its good balancing mechanic, when it come to RPG novel they throw it all out of the window.

How do you expect people to truly love and play unbalanced games?

Eh most of the Litrpgs are actually done rly well, it isn’t like just grinding to level. Dungeon heart is a litrpg but it focuses on world building

I live under the proverbial rock and didn't recognize the name of that movie. When I looked it up it kinda reminds me of one of those silly movie previews with a guy on a trailer and he had a VR headset on. It looked silly to me because VR is still so foreign. Haha it's not like SAO yet.

I actually like litrpgs, or at least something with quantifiable stats (think Warlock of the Magus World). But, for the life of me, I can't stand gaming novels. They trigger my anxiety for some reason.

Lol. I tried reading gaming novels. I tried Peerless White Emperor or something but I just couldn't continue. But non-gaming litrpgs, like Everybody Loves Large Chests, The Arcane Emperor, etc. are my favs. One of the reasons I even read WMW was because of the quantifiable stats. I can't read something if I can't do mental maths with it, unless I'm just passing some time with a power fantasy.

We are two... Isn't LitRPG that kind of novel where the MC must prepare beforehand the two or three magics he will use during the day?

If you have been to RRL, most stories there after the whole zombie trend are mostly litrpg... that was even before ready player one's movie was announced.

    LitRPG?
I wish they also convey the anguishness of Gacha Rools. I mean, if they like... 10-free Draw. Why am I only get 9 R, and 1 SR...

The SSR should be 5% you know...

YESSS I found WMW's stats really really likeable, because most of the time in Xianxia novels, we're just given a vague description of the mc's power. Every time he does a breakthrough we're like 'o ok he's stronger now' but with WMW, we know that every point of a stat is equivalent to that of an adult male. So when mc punches something, we can imagine the effects of the fight.

Hmm dunno bout RRL since i just read very few there.
In ffn, rather than LitRPG, it was gamer(webtoon)—esque fanfic that get tons of favorite and followed in various franchise. All those the MC (OC or not) suddenly got status screen, quest, skill, you know the drill.

Haven’t really noticed a “rise” since it’s been a common trend since I started reading a few years back. It fits in really well with the isekai genre.
