    Ai-chan da yo. Yoroshiku!

I've always wanted to say that, you see. Uhum! Well, I'm running a poll, you see. For those of you who are 40 year old virgins (or 30 year old according to some lore), which do you prefer to be called? Is it a wizard, a mage, or a magician?

Alternatively, if you are kicked into a fantasy world, do you prefer being called:
    1) Warrior or Swordsman?
    2) Archer or Bowman?
    3) Thief or Assassin?

Aren't Thieves/Assassins and Warriors/Swordsmen entirely different things to begin with?

I mean, they aren't alternate names for the same type of role.

That aside, in my mind Wizard is always used to denote someone more powerful or advanced. Mage or Magician is for someone lower, or as a general catch-all for the role. For example, there might be a Magician's Guild run by an Arch Wizard. Newby Magicians might be called Apprentices, and work their way up to the average "Mage."

Shouldn't there be an option for magus / magi?

Also, doesn't swordsman imply that you're using a sword while warrior is kinda free for all?

That said soldiers are part of the army and knights are mounted or nobles / have been "knighted" by the monarch, so I don't even know if there's an alternative to warrior now that I think about it.

"Fighter" maybe? iirc that's basically the basic "warrior" class in RPGs.

What would you suggest as alternate names for them? Actually, the names of the classes doesn't make a difference. They're just there basically to show:
    1) Someone who attacks
    2) Someone who avoids
    3) Someone who takes

Magus (sing) / magi (pl) is basically the same as magician and mage, isn't it?

Probably not, as the above is for basic class.

Saints are classes for admins. There's no provision for monk in my mind. Meant to keep it simple.

Why isn't there a warlock option?

    Or sorcerer?

    Enchanter?

I see, you are going for more generalized terms.

I've seen things like this before: Mage apprentice, mage, grand mage, arch mage, grand arch mage.
Yes? Wasn't that the whole thing? Mage / Magus / Magician / Wizard being basically the same???

    Mage over wizard and magician.

Warrior over swordsman; warrior implies battle experience.

Archer over bowman; archer implies skill

Thief and Assassin? Totally different. A swordsman or spellcaster can be an assassin. Likewise a swordsman or spellcaster can be a thief. Different professions or calling.

magician reminds me of stage magicians every time I hear it so that's out. Unless I'm actually doing something similar to stage magicians with my magic. I like sorcerer but mage will do in a pinch. Wizard sounds a bit too old fashioned.
