I'm not completely new to writing (fanfictions and some short ideas but idk if that's real writing) and I had break. I really like BL stories. And some of my ideas are boy's love. But I started thinking, if it'll make any sense to write them man x man, since it won't get much attention like man x woman. I don't care about getting much readers because I'll be happy if I even write whole thing for myself. But what if one day I want to publish a book? BL is popular, but I don't know if readers want to read „beginner writer” work. I have some BLs and some straight romance, one or two even Girl's love so GL. But, should I write them all as straight romance? So it'll be more accepted. Change main character so it won't be man, but woman in romance? I was wondering about that long time already and that's keeping me from writing. Thank you in advance (^-^)ノ✧
I think it's important that you write the stories that truly speak to you, not just what you think will be more accepted. If you feel connected to writing BL, then you should absolutely keep writing it. There are readers out there who love and seek out BL, and they’ll care far more about the emotion and truth in your work than whether it’s your first time writing or not. Yes, some genres may have wider mainstream appeal, like straight romance, but that doesn’t mean your BL stories have less value.. If your story was originally BL, changing it to straight romance just for the sake of popularity might make it lose the heart that made it special to you in the first place. You can definitely explore different genres if you enjoy them, like GL or straight romance—but do it because you want to, not because you feel pressured to fit a mold. And if one day you want to publish? That’s absolutely possible. The world of publishing is growing more open to diverse stories, and BL is a strong and rising genre with many supportive readers. In the end its your story you decide what to write and in my opinion enjoying what you write is the most important part and eventually you'll find your readers
You write the first story and finish it. Then when you start the second story, it will be better. By the third story, you wouldn't be a beginner anymore
