Thinking it over for a few seconds, Ayumi answers in a serious voice: "Everything, and a lot of it."

 

"yes~"

(~^o^) "can I taste a few if your getting everything~? "

 

"No, it's mine!"

 

"There'll be plenty for all."

Amused at the both of them, Ryul proceeded to order from Pierre a variety of dishes for everyone to eat.

Shortly afterwards, Pierre brought out a couple of baskets of buckwheat biscuits and butter, bowls of mixed vegetable soup, plates of boiled sausages and cheese curds, fresh apples and peaches, and lastly some cups of fruit juice.

"Here, everybody. Enjoy," Ryul helped serve them as he paid the dozen or so coppers to Pierre.

 

"Ehehehe he~ I'm joking~"

"ahh~ so much food! Thanks for the food~" may gave Ryul a hug in thanks and started nibbling on a piece of bread.

 

"Thanks!" Immediately after exclaiming this, Ayumi starts to savagely tear into the food, shedding any semblance to grace she might have had before.

"Mmm! Mmhts mmd."

 

"There's more than enough, and you're both welcome," Ryul smiled.

"However, please mind your manners and don't talk with your mouth full," the former butler nagged about etiquette.

Ryul then began to also enjoy his meal, starting with some of the biscuits and soup.

 

Ayumi manages to slightly improve her table manners... for a few seconds. It's a wonder she hasn't yet made a mess out of the table and her clothes.

May clumsily copied how Ryul was eating, though with small parcels of food.

 

Ryul shook his head as he realized this was the best he was going to get.

He continued eating his meal while making small talk with the two.

 

After finishing a piece of each dish of hers, may burped into her arm quietly and started happily chatting with Ryul, since Ayumi was too busy eating to talk.

 

Ryul occasionally nodded to her excited ramblings about this and that. He dropped a sentence or two, every so often, in between bites of his food. The half-elf was in a very pleasant mood as he listened on.

 

"and then the town guard said that I'm the perfect lure or something~ and gave me a big candy piece to eat as I went around town then the town guards would take those people to a ace where they can work for free~" may had been telling a story about her childhood, and what had happened during her visit to a neighboring small town.

 

Ryul nodded habitually and only half-listened as he cut apart some of the fruit for them. He then offered the slices to May as she finished talking about free labor or something or other.

"Here's some fruit. Proper nutrition is important in our line of work and to maintain a healthy body," Ryul advised. He also began enjoying the sweet, crunchy apple slices himself.

May happily enjoyed the apple slices before sliding the rest of her food to Ayumi


She felt sleepy from eating so much~

Ryul was glad that May enjoyed her meal as it was one of the only times he had seen her eat anything outside of her snacks. He briefly wondered where she was getting all these snacks in the first place.

"May, where do you get all your snacks anyway? Do you purchase them yourself or does someone else do it for you?" the half-elf was curious.

 

Crowen sat in his seat. Laughter, clangor, clinking mails and sounds of people is filling the tavern. In such occasion you normally wouldn't find anyone with demure expression. Only Crowen's face which expresses reservedness. He ordered the ale. It came from a new flagon but, he didn't touch it.

Desperation. Loneliness. Rejection.

To be honest with himself, he was afraid.

How would people here accept him? How can he be a proper adventurer? Not that his life is in toil but indeed his mind is. His place is in the market, selling everything he got last night after spending one day in the forest. His home is the simple hut he built, his garden, and those field workers, merchants, and guards of the city entrance who sometimes reach out to him, inviting him for drinking.

Compared to everyone here, who is brimming with liveliness or confident, he is pale. His world is covered in a thin shell. Just like an egg, it will break, and spill the slick raw egg's white, and the golden yolk. He thought it will be better to not register as an adventurer. But it was the guards who encouraged him. And worse, they told everyone.

He couldn't step back and lower his head. One thing he hates is disappointing other people.

But he don't know, if he could stood to his words.

He need the courage. A nudge out of the world of his own.


He need someone to break the shell.

 

Pierre, the barkeep, quietly approached Ryul while he was conversing with May. The orc leaned close to his ear and whispered about how an adventurer had just arrived and seemed like he needed someone to talk to. Pierre also mentioned how he ordered a drink but didn't touched it at all.

Curious, Ryul looked beyond the tavern patrons and over to where the bartender subtly indicated. A black-haired young man seemed lost in his thoughts and in a world of his own.

Pierre silently pleaded with his eyes, and the half-elf nodded in acceptance. Ryul politely excused himself from his talk with May and made his way across the venue.

The half-elf approached the man with a smile, "Hello, I don't believe we have met yet. My name is Ryul, someone who's pursuing the path of a scholar. Pleased to make your acquaintance," Ryul offered out his right hand for a shake.

 

Albeit the conundrum inside his head his wish just get granted. It was that easy.

His hands reached toward the man who just introduced himself. He smiled, he smiled back. Everything seems awkward for Crowen but, in reality it was fine. It was common for new adventurers act embarrassingly, trying to keep up everyone's hopes.

His mouth finally said a word : "Crowen.". His own name.

And that reality marble crumbles, into million monochromatic pieces, into dust, which finally revealing myriads of colours.


Didn't know what to say next, he simply said, "At yours."

 

Ryul felt the atmosphere was slightly awkward but wasn't sure why.

Nonetheless, he bravely pressed on, "Would you like to come back with me and sit at my table? It seems like you're all alone here and could use a friend to talk to."

Ryul patiently awaited Crowen's response. Hopefully, it would be a positive one.
