It's all a conspiracy!! Anyway been hearing a lot about this and getting all these ideas in my head as to why this is being done. I've come to realize we are truly nothing but sheep and can only live as such. People can choose to think they are free and independent even if it is nothing but a fantasy. Just give me free novels to read and living in denial is so much more pleasant.

my grandmother gets shit like this from time to time, i just laugh at her and tell her to call the number on her bill and ask for an answer, leave the email the hell alone and don't click anything it says. the shaming works, so every time she freaks out about something on the computer, she comes to me to see how she should deal with it. it's better this way, even if i have to spend the next hour repeatedly telling her to stop huffing and puffing over what it *might* mean and just call before she'll actually do it.

I use emails daily and I receive thousands of emails daily! It's still pivotal especially since letter sending isn't a viable option anymore.

I use it both for business and personal purposes.

 

what you mean fake? you mean hacking? in my opinion it does count as hacking done by a virus. Ransomware did got inside those computers

 

I know that is a joke but in all seriousness; since the virus is a worm variant, you don't need to click on a email to get infected from it, you could also be infected from another computer on a network. The only real way to prevent the virus from spreading( at least Wcry) would be patching your pc since it is talked that the reason why Wcry works is due to a windows venerability(which was patched in March).

However, if you have nothing to lose on your computer, you could always format your hard-drive and get rid of the worm that way. Also, always back-up your secret stash of pictures and foreign movies.

This information, a bit too late. But, better than not knowing. Yesterday my country also spread this information in the morning.
And also microsoft has already spread the way to prevent them spreading into your computer. It has something to do with SMBv1 port thingy.

Well, even though some of this was spread by email, alot was from vulnerability in networks. Basically the stuff that was never upgraded from windows xp (bit hard to shut down critical hospital stuff for an upgrade).

And in response to some comments before me (not trying to be snarky), emails are still used for sending long documents or lots of info. Bitcoins... drugs.

P.s. That kill switch they found doesn't really solve the problem. It just delays it until variants with different switches come online.

If you're updating your patches, you don't need to worry. It's been patched by Microsoft in the systems that are still 'current' (7, 8, 8.1, 10)
